For strong international relations, countries must have representative bodies almost everywhere. It is undoubtedly from this idea that embassies and consulates were born. Cameroon has representations in many countries, including Belgium. These organizations play several roles to improve the diplomatic climate and the well-being of the diaspora.
The Cameroonian embassy in Belgium
Located in the city of Brussels, the Cameroonian embassy near Belgium is an institution in its own right. It mainly deals with diplomatic relations which it must maintain. This delegation of Cameroonian power is very important to ensure the frequency of business opportunities or agreements between the two countries. It also prevents the government from having to travel and promotes the acquisition of opportunities.
The embassy is fully independent and has a legal right to exercise its functions. It just has to comply with the basic requirements prescribed by the host country, Belgium.
In addition, the embassy's mission is to direct humanitarian aid and contribute to the preservation of Cameroonian cultural values.. It promotes endogenous cultures by celebrating Cameroon's national days and holidays. From a humanitarian point of view, it helps these fellow citizens who live in deplorable conditions to get by. This aspect can take care of housing, food, medical care and security. When the situation of fellow citizens becomes unmanageable, the embassy is responsible for providing the necessary documents to the individual for their return to the country. The role of the head of mission and his colleagues is to offer the best service to fellow citizens even if the effectiveness is not yet tangible.
Cameroonian consulate in Belgian territory
The consulate is an establishment which also deals with relations with the two States; Cameroon and Belgium. However, this service is not necessarily linked to diplomatic relations between the two countries, it is opened with the consent of the host country. Cameroonian nationals in Belgium can therefore put an end to their administrative problems and have a simplified stay in Belgium. The main role of this organization is to take a census of fellow citizens living in Belgium and to provide them with assistance. The consulate is also capable of issuing the administrative documents that Cameroonian citizens need. These may include, among other things, birth certificates, death certificates or marriage certificates at the request of the subject. After the usual information checks, the documents are transmitted by the embassy. However, it should be noted that this may have some constraints. The consul or embassy must sometimes comply with the legislative requirements put in place by Belgium. This state of affairs does not always suit Cameroonian realities.
However, it is vital to comply to benefit from the advantages of dealing with the Belgian State. Services related to identity documents are the most requested by Cameroonians living in Belgium. Generally, this involves restoration of an ID card or passport or any other expired document. The consulate being able to provide these services, the subjects are very often satisfied. However, the completion time can be a little long.
Since April 30, 2023, visas are issued online only. The consulate no longer issues these documents.
