Cameroon: mobile customs declarations from 1 January 2024

Cameroon recently announced the launch of a new mobile application designed to facilitate, simplify and digitise customs procedures for travellers. From 1 January 2024, all travellers to Cameroon will have to check in via this application before their departure.. This measure is part of a general trend aimed at dematerialising travel formalities and tightening border controls.

An application to replace paper arrival cards

Previously, travellers arriving in Cameroon had to complete a paper arrival card distributed by the airlines. These documents were often tedious to complete and could considerably slow down the process of entering the country. From now on, thanks to the new CMR Customs application, passengers will no longer need to fill in these paper forms, but will be able to complete all the procedures via their smartphone or tablet.

The use of this application will not only simplify and speed up the customs process, but will also considerably reduce the use of paper and, consequently, the environmental impact.

Progressive digitisation of travel formalities

Before the introduction of this application for arrival cards, Cameroon had already begun to move towards paperless travel formalities. For several months now, it has been possible to apply for and extend an electronic visa (e-Visa).

This new measure is in line with the efforts made by the Cameroonian authorities to modernise border control procedures, and aims to make the process easier for passengers by offering them a faster, more practical service.

Getting ready: Download the application now

The Cameroonian authorities are inviting all passengers travelling to Cameroon to download the Douane CMR application now to familiarise themselves with how it works. From 1er January 2024, it will become compulsory for anyone arriving in the countryIn addition, airlines will no longer be distributing paper arrival cards.

How the application works

The application is easy to use and guides users step by step through the process:

  1. Download the application from the Apple App Store or Google Play;
  2. Open the application and start filling in a new form;
  3. Fill in all the necessary information, such as your personal details, travel dates, reasons for staying...;
  4. Submit your electronic declaration by validating the completed form;
  5. A QR code will then be automatically generated for you, which you will need to present at customs checks when you arrive in Cameroon.
