What are the specificities of the eVisa for Cameroon?

Central African state located on the Gulf of Guinea, the Cameroon is home to many natural and tourist sites. It is among the most visited countries on the continent due to its cultural and sporting wealth. However, to get there, it is necessary to have a visa. Since April 30, 2023, the visa application must be made directly online. Here is some information relating to the deadline for issuing an e-visa (electronic visa) for Cameroon.

Formalities and deadlines for obtaining a Cameroonian visa

As entry into Cameroonian territory is subject to possession of a visa, it is important to apply for one well in advance of your trip.

This operation is now done online. The traveler must attach to his request certain documents, in particular the copy of his passport valid for at least six months upon arrival in Cameroon.

After your online application and receipt of the documents, it may take up to a few days for your application to be processed by the Cameroonian authorities. The processing time depends exclusively on the Cameroonian authorities, so it may take more or less time. Your e-visa will then be sent to you by email.

The authorities may also ask you to go to the Consular Post nearest to you to complete your file. So take this factor into account when you submit your application to avoid unpleasant surprises.

The different types of Cameroonian visas

Depending on the type of stay to be made, travelers can opt for different types of Cameroonian e-Visa. These have some specificities that we present to you here.

The transit e-Visa

This is a visa which allows you to pass through the country for a period of one to five days, with the aim of going to another destination. Obtaining this travel document requires providing (among other things) a copy of the plane ticket and a copy of the visa for the final destination.

The short stay e-Visa

The short-stay e-visa allows you to reside in Cameroon for a maximum of 180 days, valid for 6 months. To obtain it, you will need to provide (among other things) a return plane ticket, an international yellow fever vaccination certificate, and a hotel reservation or proof of accommodation.

Long-stay e-Visa

As its name suggests, the long-stay visa is an authorisation to reside in Cameroon for a period of up to 180 days, but remains valid for 1 year. To obtain this e-visa, a repatriation guarantee will be required, as well as other documents depending on your situation (work contract, internship certificate, etc.).

In addition, for business reasons, a mission order or a letter of invitation will be required.

To avoid not receiving your e-visa in time, be sure to prepare the necessary documents before submitting your application, and allow at least a few days for your application to be processed.

Entry points

For the moment, the eVisa allows entry to the country by air only. The 2 airports concerned are Yaoundé and Douala. The sea route may be an option studied soon.
