Visa for Cameroon: What has changed on 30 April 2023

On April 30, 2023, Cameroon introduced its e-Visa system. From now on, all visa applications to Cameroon are made exclusively online. Until this date, international travelers had to go to an embassy to obtain their visa.

The project is described as “revolutionary” by the Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella.

The process of obtaining the e-Visa in 4 steps

Online pre-registration

Visa applicants must go online to submit an application online. They are invited to complete a quiz (personal data, passport information and desired visa) then provide their travel documents, in particular a copy of their passport, their plane ticket and their letter of invitation or proof of accommodation.

Online payment of e-Visa fees

Once the online form is completed, the applicant is invited to pay for their visa online by various means offered, such as Visa or MasterCard bank card. A payment notification will then be sent by email or text message.

Processing the request

Electronic visa applications are processed by the Diplomatic mission where the Consular Post legally competent or geographically close. For those residing in the city where the relevant Post is located, a notification by email or SMS is sent to them for an appointment with a view to their presentation for the biometric enrollment formality. Applicants located in remote areas will receive an online visa issuance authorization with a QR code. This procedure takes place within 72 hours after pre-enrolment, which can be reduced to 24 hours as part of an express procedure.

For the launch, the deadlines are not necessarily assured, the time to break in the system. You have to get there early!

Affixing the visa

The visa is affixed at the entry control point for holders of an online visa issuance authorization. It is important to note that embassies no longer issue visas at the embassy. No more long wait!

For the moment, the e-Visa is only offered to travelers entering Cameroon by air.. However, the e-Visa system will be gradually implemented at land and sea checkpoints and entry points.
