Cameroon is a country in Central Africa located on the shores of the Gulf of Guinea, the capital of which is Yaoundé. Its climate is subtropical, meaning that summer is very hot and humid, winter is much milder but can be very cold depending on the year. Cameroon is full of landscapes so different from each other, beautiful beaches bordering the Atlantic Ocean, mountainous reefs, lush forests and even desert plains.
It is a rich and diverse country both in terms of its fauna and flora and in terms of its climate. Tourist attractions are numerous and suitable for different types of tourism. Between ocean and mountains, savannah and jungle, dry and humid temperatures, Cameroon is a vast melting pot of discoveries.
Two seasons stand out in Cameroon: dry season which extends from November to April and the wet season from April to October. The rains are often heavy and it is difficult to move around the country, so tourism by the sea is to be avoided.
Dry season: November to April
The best time to explore this multifaceted country is from November to April, during the dry season. During this period, temperatures are more moderate and there is little precipitation, so travel is easier. It is during the dry season that wildlife watching and visiting national parks are recommended. Like for example the Waza or Korup national park which offer the possibility of observing endemic species of the savannah: elephants, lions, monkeys and a wide variety of birds.
During this period, it is strongly recommended to climb Mount Cameroon, the highest point (4,094 meters) and to observe the Fako volcanic crater. It is even possible to take part in the running race in January, famous throughout Africa.
The wet season: from April to October
However, the wet/rainy season runs from April to October. It is also an ideal season to explore the abundant forests and observe the waterfalls which can be impressive such as those of Ekom Nkam or the Lobé Falls. Climbing Mount Cameroon can also be a rich experience during the rainy season, with lush and abundant vegetation.
During this period there are several festivals across the country, such as that of the Masques of Dschang which allows you to discover the cultural traditions of the region, or the Nguon Festival in homage to the Bamiléké people.
Both seasons are therefore ideal for discovering this country, it all depends on the type of activities favored during your stay. On the other hand, you should know that during the rainy season, certain areas of the country are difficult to access and can be flooded. In order to make the most of the multiple facets of the country, the dry season from November to April remains ideal and allows you to travel more peacefully.
