Cameroon's national team handballers recently suffered a major blow when they were excluded from the Olympic Qualification Tournament (OQT) for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This situation arose due to difficulties encountered in obtaining visasDespite the initial efforts of the Cameroon Ministry of Sport to ensure their participation. Accusations of sabotage against the German consulate cast a shadow over the situation, leaving athletes and handball fans bitter about a missed opportunity on the international stage.

Cameroon's women handballers have been forced to withdraw from the Olympic Qualification Tournament (OQT) for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which is currently taking place in Hungary. This unfortunate situation is due to difficulties encountered in obtaining their visasDespite the significant efforts made by Cameroon's Ministry of Sport. As a result, Cameroon have been replaced by the United Kingdom in this crucial competition.

Cameroon's Ministry of Sport had taken all the necessary steps to ensure that the women's handball team could take part in the TQO being held in Debrecen, Hungary, as well as in other European countries such as Spain and Germany. Unfortunately, despite all our intentions and efforts, the administrative procedures required to obtain the necessary permits are still not being completed. visas turned out to be a real cross.

Abba Oumate, President of the Cameroon Handball Federation (FECAHAND), did not hesitate to accuse the German consulate of being at the root of these difficulties. According to him, the latter had deliberately delayed the process of granting the visas to the Cameroonian delegation, making it impossible for them to take part in the tournament. This accusation raises questions about the motives behind this alleged sabotage, with FECAHAND insinuating that these complications were orchestrated to favour the British team.

It is important to shed light on the context in which these difficulties in obtaining visas. Several European countries, including Germany, have recently tightened their procedures for granting visas following warnings of terrorist risks. These new regulations have considerably complicated the process for many sports delegations, including Cameroon.

At the other end of the spectrum, well-informed sources within the Ministry of Sport suggest that FECAHAND may also bear some responsibility. Indeed, these sources maintain that the Ministry had simply provided a financial support to the federation, leaving the latter in charge of all the administrative formalities required to obtain the licences. visas for athletes and technical staff. This situation raises questions about the internal management of the federation and its ability to fulfil its responsibilities.

With this disqualification, the Olympic aspirations of Cameroon's national women's handball team have vanished. The players, who had put their heart and soul into preparing for this competition, find themselves disillusioned, unable to compete at international level. All the hard work put in by the players and coaches has come to nothing, leaving a bitter taste in the team's mouth.

In addition, it is deplorable to note that none of the players received any bonus for their performances at the Women's Handball World Cup in 2023. Reports indicate that the Cameroon government has not allocated the necessary funds to finance the tournament, including travel, accommodation and other expenses. This raises serious questions about the Ministry of Sport's real commitment to the athletes, particularly those in the women's teams.

In the near future, the parties involved hope that this situation can be resolved to allow the team to compete in future international competitions. However, substantial changes to the management of the visas and better communication between the institutions will be imperative to prevent other teams from finding themselves in the same damaging situation.

For more information on the procedures for applying for a visas and other tips for travelling to Cameroon, you can consult the following resources: Applying for a visa in Cameroon, Visa for Switzerland, Income from Cameroon thanks to the visaand Consular fees.
